bring home the oscars

The Academy Awards is this Sunday, March 2nd...not only a fun night for TV, but a great excuse to throw a party!

Since the famous celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck is celebrating his 20th year of planning the menu for the Governors Ball for the Oscars, I thought it would be fun to share some of the hors d'oeuvres that he is cooking up for it this year along with the design trends that Sequoia Productions has dreamed up and a few signature cocktails and games to inspire you for your own Oscar Viewing Party.

What ideas will you incorporate?

Chicken Grits Wolfgang Puck Oscars

Wolfgang Puck's take on chicken and grits...bite size, neat & it!

Wolfgang Puck Mini Burgers Oscars

Puck's famous mini cheeseburgers, complete with tiny pickles and tomatoes, are always a great hit, even amongst the celebrities!

Salmon Oscar Statues Wolfgang Puck

It wouldn't be the Oscars without the Wolfgang's famous salmon Oscar statues with a dollop of caviar or his gold dusted chocolate Oscar statues. You can find Oscar statue cookie cutters at Bakerella and make your own.

Gold Chocolate Oscars

All this talk of food has me quite thirsty! As luck would have it, Cheryl Cecchetto has shared two recipes of the signature cocktails from this years Oscars.

Sterling Vineyards is the official wine sponsor of the Oscars again this year...a great wine you can easily find at your local liquor store.

Champagne Thienot is the official champagne sponsor of the 86th Oscars. For the pre-show reception guests will enjoy Thienot Brut and at the ball, guests will enjoy Thienot Rose and Thienot Vintage 2005.

I think all of these cocktails sound delicious and excellent champagne and wine selections are a must at any Oscar party!

Now that your palette is salivating, lets talk about the palette for design at the Oscars this year! It is always so exciting to see how Sequoia Productions is going to transform the Hollywood & Highland Ballroom. It is hard to wow 1,500 Hollywood A-listers and yet each year, the design is unique and over-the-top amazing!

This year is a nature theme with a glamorous interpretation; complete with towering garden walls and a starry night sky with a color palette of deep purples, lime greens, tangerine, orange and copper with an array of texture and fabrics in jewel tones, olive wood floral organzas, deep velvets, Italian leopard tapestry and splashes of glint and glitter.

Garden Wall Oscars 2014

Mark's Garden is designing lush floral arrangements consisting of roses, orchids, kale, hydrangea, ferns and vines to accent the "living art" garden walls and the aubergine, platinum & pear chairs, ottomans, banquettes and stone bars.

Oscars Starry Sky Design

Although you may not have towering garden walls crafted for your Oscar Party (or maybe you will), these ideas are a great inspiration for your Oscar party. Play with the pantone color of the year, purple, and accent it with natures beautiful organic designs, sprinkle a little sparkle and voila, your Oscar Party is red carpet ready.

Starry Sky Lantern Lights

Last but certainly not least, create some fun games to get your guests actively involved in picking the winners. With so many great movies and actors, this year is going to be a tough guess, so have fun with it...create voting ballots for guests to fill out while they're snacking on your hors d'oeuvres and celebrate by finishing out the night with one of your fabulous champagne cocktails!

Perhaps you can have some fun prizes for the winners, like gift certificates to the movies, sealed in gorgeous gold foiled envelopes such as the Art Deco inspired satin gold foil envelopes created by Marc Friedland.
